About Susan Desmarais founder of Mosaic Travel Services.
-Upon graduation, I backpacked in Europe for 6 months visiting France, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, England, Italy, and the former Yugoslavia. (I picked grapes throughout France and worked in a pub in London, too!)
-My first job upon my return to the US was with TNT Vacations in Boston in 1982. I started in their Operations department and worked my way up to Product Development.
At the time, TNT ran charters to the Caribbean, Mexico, Bermuda and Costa Rica during the winter months, which is how I came to know these destinations firsthand. During the summer months, TNT handled the travel of large affinity groups (Shrine Temples, Teachers Associations, etc) to Europe, as well
as cruise vacations. I was fortunate during this time to return to Europe on several occasions. I also enjoyed many cruises, including my first cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s “Song of America”.
-Over the years I went on to work as the New England sales representative for an Italian cruise company and Greek cruise company, affording me extensive travel to the Mediterranean region (including Turkey, Greece and her Islands) and South America.
-Shortly after the Persian Gulf War erupted, I was recruited to work for Grand Circle Travel, a nationwide direct mail marketing company based in Boston. Here I worked as a product buyer and assisted in establishing their cruise division, including cruise tours and river cruises.
I have been fortunate to have sailed on Royal Caribbean, Princess, Holland America, Celebrity, Special Expeditions, Norwegian Cruise Line, Star Clipper, Royal Olympic, and Sun Lines, and participate in sight inspections aboard Regency, Crystal, Carnival, Cunard, and Seabourn.
While at GCT, I worked with Radisson, Cruise West, Ocean Cruise Line, Royal Cruise Line, World Explorer, Epirotiki, Delta Queen Steamboat, among many others, and contracted/sailed with many river cruise companies on the Danube, Rhine, Soane, Rhone, Seine and Elbe Rivers.
-In 1995, I took a hiatus from working full time in order to raise my children, but was able to continue to do contract work from time to time for the Martinique Tourist Board, TNT Vacations, as well as the National Education Association travel program.
-In 2003, we found our family moving to Europe, my husband having accepted a job transfer to Neuchatel, Switzerland. Because Switzerland is so centrally located and so well connected to the rest of Europe, we travelled constantly and extensively. We were like ‘kids in a candy shop’!
-I have been working as a travel consultant since 2008 and have travelled to over 40 countries on 5 continents. As an accredited specialist in many destinations, I continually take courses and attend familiarization trips in order to provide my clients with the most relevant and up-to-date information.
I love what I do, and consider myself fortunate to be in a position to convey this enthusiasm to my clients on a daily basis.
